Although you need to be a tad careful when removing carbon from engine components, with parts such as valves you can be a little aggressive to speed things along without doing any damage. After removing the heavy carbon an everyday cleaner such as anti-cal and a Scotchbrite pad will remove the final staining from the surface without damaging any protective surface. Finishing the surface of the valve is important to ensure that carbon build up is set off for as long as possible.
